A Screw-Top Lid Saved My Marriage
It’s beginning of a new year and I’m happy to say that all our holiday decorations have been stored away for another 11 months. With that comes some merging and purging and pre-spring cleaning (although here in Tampa, mid-seventy temperatures make it feel like spring).
So in the midst of cleaning, I gave some much-needed attention to my plastic container cabinet (otherwise known as CHAOS).
My plastic container cabinet had a variety of old Tupperware with forest green lids I received as a wedding gift in the mid 90’s, a variety of mismatched disposable containers (half of which are missing lids) and a set of Ikea containers with every size under the sun (most sizes of which I’ll never use, but they were cheap, so why not?).
I like to think of myself as somewhat organized, so I made a very good attempt to organize the lids from the motley crew of containers. I divided them into three groups: blue lids, green lids and everything else. Each group was housed in a gallon-sized storage bag. As I said, I thought it was a great attempt at being organized, but my husband had a hard time agreeing with me. He detested having to sort through the plastic ware so much, that he would either put leftovers in a dish with aluminum foil over it or leave the food on the counter for me to handle.
Fortunately for me, I work for a company who specializes in plastic products, such as can liners, cutlery, shopping bags, etc. They recently rolled out a line of plastic containers with screw top lids. Very cool, since the screw top feature keeps them from leaking. Even better was that every size container used THE SAME TYPE OF LID! Yes it was true! No more searching for the dreaded lid. My marriage was saved!
Since our company only manufacturers these wonderful containers and doesn’t sell them retail, I found out where I could buy them. I actually asked my husband to get them for me for Christmas! Fortunately he bought enough for me to throw away all of my other plastic containers (yes, I threw away Tupperware!) and he spent all of $25 to do it.
So now my disorganized cabinet of plastic containers contains three stacks. One for small containers, one for large containers and one for the lids that fit both! And my husband is now happy to put away the leftovers. A marriage made in heaven!
